    Susquehanna Folk Music Coffeehouse

    Susquehanna Folk Coffeehouses are intimate Saturday evenings showcasing Central Pennsylvania’s fine amateur acoustic musicians. Cabaret seating and tasty refreshments create an informal coffeehouse atmosphere in the cozy, rustic barn. Check the calendar for more coffee houses this season!

    Homeschoolers’ Day

    A workshop about regional Native American Indians! Students in grades 2-6 and their parents love this hands-on workshop and the tour the Fort Hunter Mansion.   The visit, including time for a bag lunch, runs just under 4 hours.  In the 1 ½ hour workshop students will furnish a wigwam, practice with a throwing stick, participate in hands on activities and more. Then they’ll tour the Mansion to see how people lived at Fort Hunter in the early 1900s.  Because of space limitations, only students in the 2 – 6 grades will participate in the program, other activities must be provided for other children in the family.

    $5 students, $3 adults, pre-register at 717-599-5751.

    Del Rey

    Del Rey is an American blues, jazz and ragtime singer, guitarist and ukulele player. Her distinctive fingerstyle playing has an fascinating complexity, and she makes her solo instrument (even the ukulele!) sound like a whole band.     Garden Faire

    Welcome long awaited Spring at Garden Faire. Purchase some plants, explore the craft show, dance a Maypole dance, try your hand at croquet and have a scrumptious lunch. Returning this year, the cultured game of croquet will be demonstrated in the barn green.

    Visit 45 craft vendors and the Friends of Fort Hunter Plant Sale. And of course there’s tasty food available for purchase, Ikebana and Bonsai exhibits, Maypole dances, Victorian music and cake walks, as well as The Paxtang Art Association’s show and sale. Fort Hunter Mansion tours will include viewing the Needle Arts Exhibit.  Many thanks to the Pennsylvania Bakery for donating the favorite Teapot Cake for the cakewalk.     Needle Art Exhibit

    View the handiwork of local needle artists from  Molly Pitcher Stitchers, Susquehanna, and  Nittany Valley chapters of the Embroiderers Guild of America.  The needle works will be on display from May 5 through June 16 and can be viewed on a tour of the Mansion, during museum hours, regular admission charged.  Discounted group tours are available and can be arranged by calling 717-599-5751.     "Hit the Road Educational Tours" Hillwood Estate and the Washington National Cathedral Bus Trip

    Join the Friends of Fort Hunter’s “Hit the Road Educational Tour” on a bus trip to Hillwood Estate and Museum and the Washington National Cathedral featuring Dr. Donald Koones narration.

    Departing the Fort Hunter Centennial Barn parking lot promptly  at  7 a.m. (boarding begins at 6:45 a.m.), Dr. Koones will regale participants with juicy history and stories of Marjorie Merriweather Post during the trip.

    Arriving at Hillwood, home of Marjorie Merriweather Post,  guests will participate in a guided tour of the formal gardens and pristine mansion full of 18th and 19th century French art and incredible Fabergé eggs.  Savor an afternoon tea in the midst of this grand estate.

    Back on the bus, get a head start on the behind the scenes fun facts of the National Cathedral, such as the 215 stained glass windows and 112 gargoyles, whose cornerstone was laid in 1902 and completed in 1990.  Participate in a guided tour highlighting the history, architecture and mission of this national treasure and enjoy some free time to visit the outstanding Gift Shop.

    On the way home, a dinner stop at Mountain Gate Family Restaurant, with dinner on your own,  will complete the day.  Plan to return to Fort Hunter around 8:30p.m.
