Christmas at Fort Hunter
More »Classic, traditional decorations of fresh greens and fruits, dried materials and fresh flowers adorn the Mansion for the holidays. Guided tours highlight the seasonal trimmings and holiday customs of the Reily’s. Many thanks to the Civic Committee of the Garden Club of Harrisburg for their inspired decorating creations. Craft Reunion
Handcrafted, affordable pottery, jewelry, metal sculpture, rustic woodcraft, glass, fine art, photography, wood toys, soaps, ornaments and more are offered for sale by members of the former Third Street Pottery. Greens Sale
Featuring decorative, handmade greens such as topiaries, boxwood trees, centerpieces, swags, plus magnolia and holly branches and more for sale. Arrangements made by Friends of Fort Hunter members are decorated with berries, dried flowers, etc. and created in wet oasis to be long-lasting.

Annual Festival of Trees
Co-sponsored by the Harrisburg Area Civic Garden Center, six themed Christmas trees are exhibited for viewing. Beautifully decorated with handmade ornaments and trimmed by local garden clubs the trees are available for raffle. A selection of handmade ornaments will be available for purchase.

Fort Couture
Adorned in holiday spirit, these Christmas dress forms are a twist on holiday decoration. Displayed in the Stone Stable, these festive wonders are created by volunteers, Friends of Fort Hunter and local businesses. Using fresh and imitation greens and other imaginative materials, Fort Couture will amaze and inspire your holiday season. Free

Kid's Only Holiday Shop
Kids age 12 and under can shop for family and friends with the help of helper elves. All gifts are under $10 with items for all ages, including grandparents. The children will shop with the guidance of Santa’s helpers who will assist youngsters in picking out tasteful and unique items from the Museum Shop at Fort Hunter. Parents provide spending money and a gift list. The gifts will be wrapped and tagged by helper elves and children will emerge with smiles on their faces and secrets in their gift sacks. Don’t miss this special opportunity for parents and kids.

Toy Train Exhibit
Toy trains and Christmas are the stuff of memories. View passenger trains, freight trains and scenes reminiscent of Pennsylvania attractions and countryside at this annual event. Presented and operated by the Keystone Model Railroad Historical Society, a magical wonderland of HO gauge trains unfolds on an 18X24 layout that may be viewed from all sides.
Check it out from every angle. There is something for everyone as lights flash, burning buildings glow, sirens sound, cattle moo and Ferris wheels turn. Old and new trains will be displayed each week and for the annual visitor, exciting new additions are made each year. Thanks to the Friends of Fort Hunter for underwriting this popular attraction.

Clear Toy Candy Making Demonstration
A sweet reminder of the past; clear toy candy making will be demonstrated in the summer kitchen of the Mansion during the Victorian Tea. This Pennsylvania-German tradition that dates back to the 1700s involves molding sugar into a hard-candy sculptures. This candy was, and still is, a traditional holiday gift among local Pennsylvanians; one-part play-thing, and one-part edible treat. Candy makers George Kopp and Gina Napoli will demonstrate in the Mansion summer kitchen during the Victorian Tea and have candies for sale. Free

Victorian Tea
More »Sample sweet and savory treats as you sip cups of spiced tea and enjoy the Mansion adorned for the holidays with fresh greens and natural trimmings. Members of the Civil War Dance and Arts Society greet guests and pour the tea in 1860’s era costume. Enjoy the sounds of holiday music on harp and flute by Liz Weiner and Becky Boone. Clear toy candy making will be demonstrated in the summer kitchen. No reservations necessary. Admission $10 at the door.

St. Thomas Dulcimer Society in Concert
Enjoy a collection of holiday and seasonal tunes played on mountain dulcimers, Baritone dulcimers, a Bass dulcimer, banjammer (plays like a Dulcimer sounds like a banjo), harps, and hammer dulcimer.
A holiday sing-along will conclude the concert and the Toy Train Exhibit will be open for a visit during a brief intermission. Seating is limited. FREE
