DESCRIPTION:African dance and drum reduce stress and anxiety\, build self-esteem\, and assist with weight loss. This energy-filled class provides an opportunity to experience West African culture through learning traditional dance movements accompanied by live music\, using traditional drums (djembe\, djun-dun). Each class starts with a warmup. Then participants are given the history\, background\, and name of the dance being taught. You’ll also learn where it comes from\, what groups of people are known for that dance\, and why it was done.  \nYou’ll go through a breakdown of dance movements to build a complete choreography. Then you’ll learn how to travel down the floor with the movements that you have learned. This helps to build core strength and stability. The class ends with a cool-down stretch. This class will help you improve stamina and build strength while burning lots of calories. DESCRIPTION:Learn to make a beautiful green sea turtle mosaic in this workshop hosted by Amanda from Mosaic Montage. This is a beginner-level workshop\, no prior experience is needed! During the class\, you will get to pick from multiple shades of machine-tumbled stained glass to create your one-of-a-kind decorated sea turtle. You will learn the basics of making a mosaic and about the supplies needed to create your work of art. Since the glass is machine-tumbled\, it is sea glass smooth and safe to handle for ages 8 and older. You will be able to take your sea turtle home with you at the end of the class. \nAll materials needed for this workshop will be supplied to you as part of your registration fee. DESCRIPTION:During the first 3 weekends in December\, kids aged 12 and under can shop for family and friends in our Kids Only Holiday Shop with the help of Fort Hunter elves. \nStaff and volunteers will assist kids in picking out tasteful and unique items from the Museum Shop at Fort Hunter. Grownups provide money and a shopping list and kids do the shopping. \nAll gifts are under $15 with items for all ages\, including grandparents. \nThe gifts will then be wrapped and tagged by helper elves\, and children will emerge with smiles on their faces and gifts ready for the holidays! \n\nSaturdays and Sundays only\nDecember 7th\, 8th\, 14th\, 15th\, 21st\, and 22nd\n12:30pm – 4:30pm\n\nFree admission\, parents or guardians provide spending money.

Join Fort Hunter for an exploration of Native American life in the Harrisburg area in the morning and in the afternoon learn about the early 1900s dairy farming operation at Fort Hunter. \nTwo programs\, participate in one or both.  Geared towards families of all shapes and sizes\, these programs include hands-on activities to engage participants in the learning process. These programs are best suited for children in grades 1 through 5 \nAdmission is $5 per person\, per program\, registration is required. \nIn the morning from 10:00 – 11:30am participate in the Native Americans Along the Susquehanna Workshop where students will explore how Indians once lived in the Fort Hunter/Harrisburg area\, focusing on how Indians obtained food\, shelter\, clothing and equipment. Activities include exploring a wigwam\, hands on activities and games.               Pre-registration is required.
