Spring Break Boredom Buster – Dairy Farming

Just because kids are on spring break, doesn’t mean the learning has to stop! Join Fort Hunter for an exploration of Native American life in the Harrisburg area in the morning and in the afternoon learn about the early 1900s dairy farming operation at Fort Hunter.

Two programs, participate in one or both.  Geared towards families of all shapes and sizes, these programs include hands-on activities to engage participants in the learning process. These programs are best suited for children in grades 1 through 5

Admission is $5 per person, per program, registration is required.

In the morning from 10:00 – 11:30am participate in the Native Americans Along the Susquehanna Workshop where students will explore how Indians once lived in the Fort Hunter/Harrisburg area, focusing on how Indians obtained food, shelter, clothing and equipment. Activities include exploring a wigwam, hands on activities and games.               Pre-registration is required. Click here to register for the Native American program.

An afternoon session from 1:00pm – 2:30pm will feature a family-friendly dairy farming program. Participants will learn a bit about the history of dairy farming at Fort Hunter, visit the barn and the summer kitchen and try churning butter by hand.              Pre-registration is required.
