Guided Field Trips

Registration for spring 2026 field trips will begin on Monday, January 5th, 2026.

Registration for summer and fall will be processed on a rolling basis once spring registration has concluded.

 

Introduction

Fort Hunter Mansion and Park is situated along the Susquehanna River, just 6 miles north of Harrisburg. The park is home to Fort Hunter Mansion, along with many other historic buildings both original to the property as well as some moved to the park from surrounding areas. Field trips cover a variety of history related topics with a focus on the people that lived at Fort Hunter over the past few centuries.

Making a Reservation

Thank you for considering Fort Hunter Mansion and Park as the destination for your school or organization’s field trip! To initiate the process, kindly complete the form provided below, providing up to three dates from our availability calendar that work for your group. Please be aware that field trip reservations are granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Field trips are not confirmed until you receive an invoice from a member of the Fort Hunter Education Team.

FAQ

Why isn’t the booking calendar/registration form showing up in my browser?

Some browsers/servers have been known to have difficulty in displaying the calendar and form widgets. Please try loading the page in a different browser (i.e. if it’s not showing up in Edge, try Chrome). What is a typical schedule for field trips?

Full-day field trips can be scheduled for 10am to 2pm.
Half-day field trips can be scheduled to occur between 10am and 2pm.

Full-day sample schedule:
9:45 am Arrive at Park
10:00 am Program 1
10:45 am Program 2
11:30 am Lunch Break
12:30 pm Program 3
1:15 pm Program 4
2:00 pm Depart from Park

Where can we eat lunch?

New for 2026! For groups scheduling a full-day field trip, a pavilion will be provided for lunch at no additional cost if one is available at the time of booking.
*Please note: due to impending construction, the East Pavilion (near the Centennial Barn) may not be available for 2026 field trips.

What should students bring for a guided field trip?

Students are encouraged to leave any unnecessary items at school or home. Students may not have bringing backpacks, water bottles, etc. with them during the Mansion Tour.

Where do we go when we get to the park?

All guided field trips (except for those visiting the mansion only) will begin their day at the Fort Hunter Centennial Barn on the East side of the park.

Can we purchase lunch at the park?

There are no concessions/food available at the park. All visitors are asked to bring their own food and beverages to the park. Water bottles may be purchased in the Mansion Shop.

What do we do with our packed lunches?

Packed lunches can be dropped off at the pavilion where your group will be eating lunch or inside the Centennial Barn.

Where are restrooms located at the park?

There are public restrooms on each side of the park near the East and West Pavilions. For guided field trip groups, restrooms will also be available in the Centennial Barn during your visit.

When do we need to arrive at the park?

Please arrive at the park 10-15 minutes prior to your groups scheduled start time to allow for unloading of vehicles, visiting the restroom, etc.
